ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – Despite the postponement of opening day ceremonies the weekend prior, the Department of Parks and Recreation kicked off a new season of baseball at REGALA Park Saturday. Approximately twelve games were played throughout the fun-filled day of baseball excitement. An inflatable obstacle course was an added feature and provided enjoyment for many of the younger kids.
The tournament was opened with a prayer by Reverend Graylin Burl and the National Anthem
sung by Edgard native, Deja Feist. Parish President Natalie Robottom welcomed the attendees and threw out the first pitch to start the season. “Once again, opening day was filled with excitement of players, coaches and parents,” said Parish President Robottom. “Summer baseball fills the gap when school is out and helps to ensure that our children remain active and engaged in positive outlets.”
The league will consist of five (5) Tee-ball teams, four (4) 7-8 year old teams and three (3) 9-10 year old teams. Games will be played on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at REGALA
Park in Reserve and the West Bank Park Complex in Edgard. Tournaments will be held on
Debra Poche, Parks and Recreation Acting Director, thanked the fans and participants for their dedication to the St. John Parks and Recreation Department. "I believe that this
year's opening day was successful. I will continue to work towards improving the Recreation Department for years to come,” said Poche.
A game schedule will be posted online on the Parks and Recreation Department page at www.sjbparish.com once finalized.
