St. John the Baptist Parish – Summer is quickly approaching and the St. John Parish Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for its summer programs and activities for residents of all ages.
Registration is currently open for the St. John the Baptist Parish Summer Camp for youth ages 4 through 12. The camp is held Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., beginning June 2, 2014 and ending July 10, 2014. The registration fee is $150 for the 6 week camp.
Daily activities include arts and crafts, team sports, swimming, academic enrichment, games, field trips and more. Registration forms are available at the Parks & Recreation office (gym) at 200 Regala Park Rd., Reserve, LA and can be downloaded from the parish website at sjbparish.com. The registration deadline is May 16 and a $50 late charge will be administered after the deadline. Lunch will be provided through the St. John Parish Summer Feeding Program.
The Recreation Department is also accepting applications for summer employment for camp counselors and certified lifeguards. Assistance with lifeguard certification will be provided, if needed. Employment applications are available on the parish website at sjbparish.com, at the Parks & Recreation Office and at the Edgard Council Office, 2393 Hwy 18 in Edgard.
Registration is underway for the Ashley Kelley Swim program which will be offered free of charge to youth ages 5 -17 at the Alex "Roland" Reese Swimming Pool at REGALA Park. Classes will be in the evenings at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. For more information on this program, please call the Recreation Department at 985-652-9569 or visit the parish website.
Zumba classes, utilizing Latin-Inspired dance fitness that incorporates elements of hip-hop and salsa, are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. at REGALA Gym. Free Play Basketball is also offered on Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the gym. The Parks and Recreation Department will be offering water aerobics classes for the first time this Summer. More information on this program will be forthcoming.
