“Putting People to Work”

ST. JOHN the BAPTIST PARISH – On October 6, 2010, Parish President Natalie Robottom welcomed the Louisiana Workforce Commission to St. John the Baptist Parish for a two day conference at the St. John the Baptist Community Center.  This was the Office of Workforce Development's first statewide meeting with leaders from the Community Action Agency, Workforce Investment Agency, Louisiana Rehabilitation Services and the Office of Workforce Development. Over one hundred employees from around the state were in attendance.  While their core objective is to "put people to work," the objective of this statewide meeting was to develop a partnership that coordinates needed services while eliminating duplication of efforts.

The local workforce office, St. John Business and Career Solutions Center, 975 Cambridge Drive, LaPlace, works with employers and individuals seeking employment. They provide training and retraining for those in need.  Individuals seeking help with their career plan are able to meet with representatives to assist with their plan of action for career advancement and receive guidance to help match him/her to a career.  Guidance with resumes, interviewing, and networking are also available to those in search of employment.

Currently, 750,000 people in Louisiana are under employed or unemployed.  Residents are encouraged to visit their local Career Center for assistance in career options and the steps to take to prepare for a new career.
