The Canadian National (CN) Railroad will begin making railroad crossing improvements throughout St. John the Baptist Parish beginning this week. As the work progresses to each area, notifications will be sent to residents, and detour signs will be placed in advance of the construction work to notify motorists of the closures.
Improvements will start with the Central Avenue Railroad crossing in Reserve (the crossing closest to River Road) on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. The work, which includes, removing the old railroad tracks and placing new tracks and new asphalt, is expected to be completed on Saturday, May 3, 2014. As a result, Central Avenue will be closed to through traffic in both directions during this time.
All fire departments and emergency personnel have been advised of the railroad work and each has developed alternate routes for emergency response.
