St. John the Baptist Parish – Members of the St. John Parish Office of Fire Services recently won first and third place in the Louisiana State Firemen’s Association 2014 Competitive Drill. The competition was held in Marksville, with St. John Firefighters defeating over 10 teams from across the state and unseating long-time victor Youngsville. "We are proud of our Firefighters and applaud their competitive spirit and successes,” said Parish President Natalie Robottom. "This was a great opportunity for others to see what we already know, our firefighters are top notch,” she added.
The competition entailed a very long and grueling day of timed “Firefighter Skills Events” aimed at duplicating the rigors firefighters face daily in the line of duty including hose drills, water transfer drills and equipment drills. Team One placed first in 3 out of 5 events before placing first overall.
Cain Dufrene, Chief of Operations, said competitions help improve efforts for all members. “When our members compete, they refine essential skills allowing them to work more efficiently during emergencies,” said Dufrene. “This is a huge accomplishment for the Department.”
