ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – Shortly after completion of 1,000 feet of shoreline protection for the Reserve Relief Canal, a contract was awarded to Bertucci Contracting Co, LLC for a similar project in Pleasure Bend. The contract award for $2,959,021 will go toward completion of 5,500 linear feet of shoreline protection at West Lac Des Allemands. “Both projects were initiated several years ago, but did not move forward until approved in Louisiana’s Comprehensive Master Plan for a Sustainable Coast. This placed our projects on a fast track for completion through the Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP) for protection of our coast and our community,” said Parish President Natalie Robottom.
The project will reinforce the shoreline between Pleasure Bend and Pointe Aux Herbes by placing near shore breakwaters in the area and armoring the western edge of the lake. The work is intended to protect the shoreline and adjacent properties from the dangers of continued erosion. The Shoreline Protection project is part of a Louisiana Coastal Impact Assistance Program grant awarded in 2012. Construction is expected to begin in May of 2014 and will continue through early 2015.
Before construction begins, commercial and recreational fishermen, boaters and other outdoor enthusiasts are advised that all lines, traps, nets and other fishing gear and equipment must be removed from the construction area and material transport lanes no later than Monday, April 28, 2014. Any items that remain after this date will be considered abandoned and will be removed and disposed of by the construction contractor.
