Thursday, February 20, 2014
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 3:00 a.m. Friday morning for much of Southern Louisiana and Mississippi which includes St. John the Baptist Parish.
The main concerns will be a developing squall line in advance of a cold front. This squall line is expected to generate strong to possibly severe wind gusts generally in the 40 to 50 mph range, with some portions of the squall possibly reaching 60 mph in more organized segments.
An isolated tornado or two can not be ruled out along the squall line. The timing of greater impacts are expected to be between 7 pm and 10 pm for the River Parishes, the greater New Orleans area and Houma-Thibodaux.
The threat of severe weather will end with the passage of the cold front.
