ST. JOHN the BAPTIST – According to the March of Dimes Foundation, in the United States, one in eight babies are born prematurely and a baby is born with a defect every 4.5 minutes. In Louisiana, 212 of the 1275 babies born each week are preterm.
The mission of the March of Dimes is "to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature births, and infant mortality." In carrying out this mission, the March of Dimes conducts research, community outreach, education, and provides advocacy. As a great deal of effort goes into making this foundation successful, it takes volunteers and community support to make their mission possible. This is where you come in!
On Saturday, October 9, 2010, St. John the Baptist Parish will host a March of Dimes Walk at the Highway 51 Park located at 2900 Highway 51 in LaPlace, Louisiana. This walk begins at 9:00 a.m. and is open to the public. All proceeds from the walk will go toward continuation of research and support for a foundation that helps families have healthier babies.
"We are expecting beautiful weather and a fun filled morning. Please come out and join me in supporting this worthy cause," said Parish President Natalie Robottom.
