President Natalie Robottom and her top administrators will serve food to area children and adults participating in the Parish's Summer Feeding Program at Emily C. Watkins School in LaPlace on June 23, 2010 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Parish's Health and Human Services Department has operated its Summer Feeding Program for the past twenty-two (22) years, and provides area children, 18 and under, with free, nutritious, meals. Adults with special needs presently participating in the Association for Retarded Citizens or Options For Independence educational programs may also enjoy a free meal. Adult residents of the Parish may purchase a meal for a cost of $3.00. Funding is provided through the United States Department of Agriculture and the Louisiana Department of Education.
Meals are available Mondays through Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at five (5) public school cafeterias throughout the parish, including Emily C. Watkins, East St. John Elementary, Leon Godchaux, Garyville/Mt. Airy Magnet, and West St. John High. The program services as many as 2,700 children daily and provides limited transportation services. Children participating in local summer camps are also served by this program. The summer feeding program will end on July 22, 2010.
"The majority of my professional career has been spent working with and serving the children of St. John Parish. I look forward to interacting with and serving our youth tomorrow at Emily C. Watkins School." said Parish President Robottom.
