ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – Walgreens of LaPlace hosted the second annual family-friendly Halloween event for St. John Parish residents at Cambridge Park on Wednesday, October 30, 2013. Residents were treated to jambalaya, hot dogs, candy and tons of fun courtesy of the pharmacy. Free flu shots and blood pressure screenings were administered as well as tips on staying healthy and living well.
The St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office distributed Halloween Safety guides and other items such as pencils, stickers and plastic cups. Children entertained themselves on the spacewalk, playground equipment and with face painting. The St. John firefighters distributed fire hats to the children. Registration for the St. John Parish Biddy Basketball program was available at the event through the Parks and Recreation Department. The St. John Department of Health and Human Services passed out treats to all attendees.
The LaPlace Walgreens’ Store Manager, Pamela Bates, organized the event and plans to continue in the future. “Last year was so successful, we knew that it was only right to do it again,” said Bates. “We want to incorporate more groups and agencies for next year and make it a true health fair while giving the children in our community something fun to do,” she added. “We hope next year will be even bigger and better.”
