Comprehensive Land Use Plan: Public Meetings Scheduled

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH –Several public meetings are scheduled throughout the Parish to discuss the Phase IV of the St. John the Baptist Parish Comprehensive Land Use Plan. These meetings are being held to obtain comments from residents on the draft plan to address land use, transportation, hazard mitigation, housing, historic preservation, and resiliency. The draft was developed based on analysis of demographic and development conditions pre- and post-Hurricane Isaac, as well as on input from the public.

The plan was compiled through a partnership between St. John the Baptist Parish and the University of New Orleans (UNO) Division of Planning.  Residents, business owners, and community organizations are encouraged to attend the meetings and express their views as public input is the key to a strong and sustainable community.

The Comprehensive Land Use Project is designed to identify future land use patterns that will promote safe, sustainable, and appealing development. Phase IV of the Land Use Plan at $315,000 and the Resiliency Project at $174,326 are both funded with Block Grants through the Louisiana Office of Community Development.

This Land Use report provides a vision and policy framework to evaluate future land use and development decisions, an accounting of the expected amount of land needed to accommodate the future development in St. John Parish and provides a map where – in general – new land uses sshould be developed.
