On Friday, October 4, St. John the Baptist Parish President Natalie Robottom, Andouille Festival Coordinators and artist, Jamar Pierre held an unveiling ceremony for the 40th Anniversary Andouille Festival poster and announced the events scheduled for the upcoming festival.
The poster created by artist Jamar Pierre, was done so from a nostalgic place his heart with a goal of representing St. John the Baptist Parish from an historic, yet modern point of view. “The painting reflects the abundant agriculture, savory foods, melodic music, and rich family tradition steeped in the fabric of the community,” said Pierre.
"The return of the Andouille Festival Poster is just one of several upgrades to the festival which is being coordinated by Torri Buckles, Director of Economic Development. The poster is colorful and lively and truley depicts St. John the Baptist Parish as the Andouille Capital of the World," said Parish President Natalie Robottom. Posters are now available for sale at the St. John Parish Economic Development Department, Matherne’s Supermarket in LaPlace, and Greg’s Supermarket in Reserve. One-hundred signed and numbered festival prints are available for $100.00, signed prints are $75.00, and unsigned festival prints are only $20.00.
In addition to the poster unveiling, activities, events, and band line-ups were announced at the ceremony. Festival-goers can look forward to a wide-variety of music including Shot Time, Roddie Romero & the Hub City Allstars, No Idea, John Lisi & Delta Funk, Bucktown All-Stars, Cayenne, Rebirth Brass Band, Phunky Monkeys, Changing Times Band, Gal Holiday & the Honky Tonk Revue, Mojeaux, 90 West, Amanda Shaw & the Cute Guys, and Chubby Carrier & The Bayou Swamp Band. A series of Gospel performances will take place on Sunday under the Lagniappe Tent and local youth performances will be featured under the Children’s Tent.
Festival coordinators are promoting several new and old events, including an Andouille Eating Contest and an Apron Decorating contest along with the annual Andouille Run and gumbo cook-off. The 40th Annual Andouille Festival will be held Friday, October 18 through Sunday, October 20 at the Hwy. 51 Park in LaPlace and will feature music, good times, and great food.
