Weather Alert: Flash Flood Watch in Effect for St. John Parish

Saturday, September 21, 2013

St. John the Baptist Parish has received just over one inch of rainfall today and a Flash Flood Watch is in effect through Sunday morning. Widespread, heavy rainfall is expected throughout the weekend.

As of this morning, drainage and utility systems are functioning properly with no flooding concerns. Crews are monitoring all drainage systems and are available should any concerns arise. Water levels are approximately one-half foot above normal at Lake Pontchartrain and could rise later today causing some flooding at Ruddock on Hwy 51. As a result of high water levels in the lake, our drainage systems will take longer than normal to drain.

The Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) and the Administrative staff will continue to monitor weather conditions and concerns throughout the weekend. If problems are detected in your neighborhood, dial 9-1-1 to report problems and obtain an immediate response.

Please stay tuned to local weather stations, Channel 15, and for weather updates. As changes to the forecast occur, updates will be made to the parish website at, Facebook, and twitter.
