ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – Throughout the day Saturday, flash floods of rainfall moved through St. John Parish resulting in pockets of street flooding in some low-lying areas as well as sporadic power outages.
Public Works and Utilities crews were dispatched at the onset of the rain event to monitor drainage pumps and lift stations throughout the Parish. Currently, all drainage pumps are functioning at full capacity. Street flooding was reported in LaPlace at the rear of River Forest, the rear of Cambridge and in the Paula Dr. area.
Approximately 259 customers are currently without power in the Laplace area. According to an Entergy representative, servicemen have been dispatched to the area and all power should be restored within the next 2-3 hours.
The threat of isolated thunderstorms still remains throughout the weekend. Residents are asked to assist in cleaning out catch basins and storm drains that may be filled or blocked prior in anticipation of additional rainfall. Please avoid placing debris in ditches, drainage canals, and on the side of the road that may impede drainage or become projectiles. Residents should report any issues or concerns during the rain event to 9-1-1.
Please stay tuned to local weather stations for weather updates and changes in the forecast.
