St. John Warriors Advance to World Series Tournaments

ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – As the 2013 regular baseball season comes to a close,  several parish teams are gearing up for the 2013 Dizzy Dean Baseball World Series Tournament in South Haven, Mississippi.

The 11-year-old Warriors finished their regular season with a record of 2-1 at the Dizzy Dean State Championship held last weekend in Belle Chasse qualifying the to compete in the 2013 World Series scheduled for July 12-18.  The Warriors defeated Plaquemines in the State Championship game with a score of 13-3 to capture the state championship. “The overwhelming support from the Parish, fans and parents helped to keep the momentum going even when the road ahead seemed tough,  said Coach Wayland Martin. “These victories are great, but they are behind us as we focus on succeeding in the World Series.”

The 8-year-old Warriors were also named Louisiana Dizzy Dean State Champions after defeating Plaquemines 11-2.  The will now head to the World Series Tournament scheduled for July 17-23.  The 6 and 9 year old teams were not state champions, but they also qualified to compete in the World Series.  The Dizzy Dean World Series for the 6-year old and 9-year old Warrior teams will take place July 12-18. 

This weekend, the 12-year-old Warriors will be playing in the state tournament at Mel Ott Park in Jefferson Parish. If victorious, they will advance to play in the World Series July 19-25. “Congratulations to all of the teams for their continuous hard work and success throughout the season.  We wish the 12 year old Warriors the best of luck this weekto urns they stive to join the other teams at the World Series in Mississippi,” said Parish President Natalie Robottom.

The 2013 Dizzy Dean World Series will be held at Snowden Grove Park in Southaven, Mississippi. More information will be released and placed on the parish website (Parks & Recreation page) when it becomes available.  Please contact the Recreation Department at 985-652-9569 for additional information.
