While most were sleeping last night, St. John Parish President Natalie Robottom and Sherri LeBas, secretary for the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), worked out a late-night agreement to extend Reserve/Edgard ferry services at least two more weeks allowing the parish more time to work on an operations and maintenance plan for the ferry.
Although most saw only "gloom and doom" for the future of the ferry boat, talks continued into the night with the parties most viable to craft a ferry agreement, Robottom, the Governor's Office, and DOTD. As the day progressed, the news about the ferry improved. It began with a funding announcement by representatives from the Office of Community Development (OCD) to be used toward operation and agreement by the Governor's Office to continue working with Robottom.
The evening culminated with a call from LeBas with optimism, despite the challenge to work out an agreement over the next two weeks.
Additional information will be provided as more details become available.
