ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – The Department of Parks and Recreation kicked off the 2013 Baseball Season at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening at REGALA Park.
With the advantage of nice weather, the park was filled with excited players, parents, coaches, and fans enjoying the eight baseball games scheduled for the evening. St. John Parish CAO Randy Vincent opened the baseball season by throwing out the first pitch. “Baseball gives our youth an opportunity to develop life-long friendships, learn sportsmanship as well as build character,” said Vincent. “It was a great evening and we are looking forward to many more exciting outings.”
The season will consist of five (5) Tee-ball teams, five (5) 7-8 teams, three (3) 9-10 teams and three (3) 11-12 teams. Games will be played on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at REGALA Park in Reserve and at the Westbank Recreational Complex in Edgard. Schedules of the baseball games have been posted online under Parks and Recreation Department at www.sjbparish.com.
“We are excited to begin the season and wish all of our teams good luck!” said Debra Poche, Acting Parks & Recreation Director.
