A flash flood watch has been issued for St. John the Baptist Parish through Thursday, May 2. An upper level low will produce widespread moderate to heavy rainfall over much of the region most of this afternoon. Additional rainfall is expected to continue through late Thursday with several lulls between rounds of rain.
As a result of already saturated grounds, the threat of heavy rainfall with excessive runoff will exist this afternoon and may result in flash flooding in the area. Residents can expect rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches through Thursday. Isolated, higher amounts of rain are possible in the area.
Please avoid placing debris in ditches, drainage canals, and on the side of the road that may impede drainage or become projectiles. Residents should use caution when driving in flooded roadways. Public Works and Utilities crews will be on hand during the rain event; however, residents should report any issues or concerns during to 9-1-1.
