ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – St. John the Baptist Parish north of Interstate 10 is currently under a tornado warning until 11:45 a.m.
National Weather Service meteorologists detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado 12 miles northwest of LaPlace moving east at 25 mph.
The safest place to be during a tornado is under a workbench or other piece of sturdy furniture. Residents should seek shelter on the lowest floor of the building in an interior hallway or room such as a closet if a tornado is spotted in the area. Use blankets or pillows to cover your body and always stay away from windows.
If in a mobile home or vehicle, evacuate them and get inside a substantial shelter as soon as possible. Residents should dial 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency or significant concern arises.
A tornado watch will remain in effect for St. John Parish until 1:00 p.m.
