ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST PARISH – In collaboration with Keep St. John Beautiful Month, St. John the Baptist Parish Officials and the Keep St. John Beautiful Committee are gearing up for the 7th Annual Clean Sweep event on Saturday, April 13, 2013.
Clean Sweep 2013 will consist of a parish wide clean-up day involving many government agencies, neighborhood associations, civic groups, schools, and churches. Education materials and automobile litter bags will be distributed to all participants. To create awareness during the clean-up, the Adopt-A-Road and Adopt-A-Spot programs will be onsite for informational purposes. The Adopt A Road program is a clean –up program managed through the Department of Transportation and Development that encourages groups to adopt and maintain a portion of a state highway. The Adopt-A-Spot program is a new program being implemented by the parish to encourage groups to adopt and maintain certain areas along on Parish roads.
To continue the effort of Keeping St. John Beautiful throughout the year, St. John the Baptist Parish and the Keep St. John Beautiful committee are also launching a litter campaign, “Littering Is Wrong Too”, to create awareness of the negative impact of litter on our community. This campaign is expected to generate conversations about littering and to call attention to those who litter! Support the campaign through the website and social media. “Support for our beautification efforts is needed from residents and businesses parish wide throughout the year. We encourage local business owners to join our efforts by beautifying their store fronts,” said Parish President Natalie Robottom.
Groups and individuals are asked to sign up in advance online at sjbparish.com or call Dana Milioto at 985-652-9569 to reserve specific neighborhoods or public areas for the event. Supplies can be picked up in advance on Friday, April 12 at 2:30 p.m. at the Percy Hebert Building or on Saturday, April 13 at the Highway 51 Park.
All participants are invited back to the Hwy 51 Park after cleaning the designated area for free food, refreshments, and music in appreciation of the volunteer work and commitment to keeping St. John beautiful.
